Viking tunic, Viborg reconstruction, dark blue. Size L
The look and cut of this tunic is based on an archaeological find dating back to the 11th century. In 1984, during excavations in Viborg (Denmark), a fabric bundle bound on canvas was discovered. It turned out that these were individual fragments that could be assembled into a tunic. Only the back and the sleeves were not completely preserved and leave a little room for interpretation.
The tunic has a very elaborate and unique cut for this era. The upper part of the fuselage is worked in two layers at the front and rear and provided with a rectangle from which the seams lead diagonally. The cutout is equipped with two slits and drawstrings. The arm ball is cut straight and is completed in the armpit area with a gusset. The sleeve consists of a total of three cuts and tapers towards the hem. The side seams are split, with the back extending a few centimeters above the front, hiding the upper part of the split.
Our cotton tunic is a unique reconstruction of the medieval Viborg tunic. We have attached particular importance to the correct cut of the dividing seams, the processing in the details and the correct proportions. We slightly lengthened the total length of the torso and sleeves for aesthetic reasons. Thus, our Viking tunic has long sleeves and the hem ends at thigh height. The elaborate tunic can be worn as an upper or lower tunic. The fabric (100% cotton) is medium-strength and two-ply in the trunk area.
The tunic is the perfect garment for all Nordics. For an authentic costume, we recommend combining them with a belt, calf wraps and a rushose.
