The Netatmo weather station and its App allow you to measure the weather conditions and the air quality in your place of residence. Thanks to its internet connection, this innovative weather station allows you to always have an eye on both the air quality and the weather.

Netatmo : an innovative weather station

As its name suggests, the Netatmo Weather Station tells you the weather in your area, but it doesn't stop there. This connected object also keeps an eye on what is happening inside your home, namely: monitoring the ambient temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, noise levels, and the level of carbon dioxide ( CO2).

All of this data is sent to an app that gives you an overview of indoor and outdoor conditions as well as real-time graphs and weather forecasts.

Additionally, you can choose to share this weather data with friends on Facebook and Twitter and make it available on Netatmo's world map.

Design and installation:


The weather station consists of two aluminum cylinders containing sensors and radio transmitters, a mains adapter, a fixing strap, a fixing screw, and a USB cable. It also comes with a user guide that tells you how to set everything up. You can also see the installation video on the Netatmo site.

The cylinder that sits outside the house is weatherproof is the smaller of the two, this one is 4.1cm long and 1.8cm wide. It runs on two AA batteries and has a groove on its chassis which is used to mount it on the wall of your house or other structure outside your home where it will be protected from direct rain or weather. Sun exposure. The cylinder that sits inside your home is 15.2cm tall has an LED strip on the front that briefly glows green when the station is powered on. A button on the top of the cylinder allows you to switch to manual mode and updates your readings and allows the LED color to be changed to reflect current CO2 levels (green for Good, yellow means it could be better, and red, you should ventilate the room). The back of the cylinder has a mini-USB port used for Wi-Fi configuration or charging.

The installation is quite simple. Using the included mounting screw allows you to hang the smaller cylinder from a fence post. Then you can go to http://www.netatmo.com to create an account and download the setup wizard. The first step asks you to connect the indoor station to your PC using the USB cable. Once connected, a firmware update is performed and then reboots. After one minute a message tells you that the station has been detected. You must then associate it with your Wi-Fi network and enter the Wi-Fi password. The station is associated after 30 seconds. You can name the station, enter an email address to link the station to your account. The whole process will take you less than ten minutes.

Application :

You can access your Weather Station data from a web browser or connect remotely using your iOS or Android app. On your mobile app the current weather conditions are presented with a pretty nice graphical user interface which is split into two panes: indoors and outdoors.

The window for the indoor sensor shows you the current temperature as well as the minimum and maximum temperatures for the last 24 hours. It also displays humidity, carbon dioxide (CO2), atmospheric pressure, noise levels in decibels, and an overall room comfort index that takes all the data into consideration when giving a score. For example, a comfort level of 71 is good, but not ideal. By clicking on the comfort icon, it tells you what you need to do to bring back the higher level of comfort (raising the temperature for example). Color codes are indicated by the LED located on the cylinder to let you know if the levels are acceptable or need more attention.

You can display your data inside in the form of a graph by positioning your smartphone horizontally, the Netatmo application will bring up a graph which allows you to follow your data from day one. A drop-down menu lets you choose temperature, humidity, noise, and CO2 levels.

The window for the outdoor sensor shows the current temperature and humidity levels, the minimum and maximum temperatures for the last 24 hours, the temperature feels like, which takes into account factors such as wind speed and humidity. You can also have a three-day weather forecast, rainfall, average temperatures, as well as the outdoor air quality index.

The button in the top right corner of your app shows you weather notifications for your area, including winter weather advisories and special weather reports issued by your local weather service. The button in the left corner of your app takes you to the menu where you can view information related to your account, add additional stations, and invite friends to access your data via Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, and e- mail. You can also choose to become a contributor by making your outdoor temperature data public by sharing it on the Netatmo global weather map (your data inside your home remains private). You can also use other third-party apps to view your weather data and browse the help menu which offers detailed operating mode information, graphs, sensors and notifications.
